How do I sign up?

Your Admin/Editor will send you an invite link to create a Tout account and join your publication’s Tout Organization.

 

  1. Tap invite link (sent to you by your Admin/Editor) from your mobile device or on your desktop computer
  2. Create an account using your work email and password
  3. Download Tout mobile app to your iOS or Android device (if you will be creating content via mobile)
  4. Sign into your account with your work email address and password via the Tout mobile app or on desktop at Tout.com

 

iOS

  • Download the Tout app from the Apple Store
  • Open app
  • Tap “Sign In”
  • Enter work email and password used to sign up
  • Once signed in, click profile tab (bottom right) to create/modify Tout username (make sure it matches your Twitter handle)
  • Authorize linking your account to Twitter and Facebook
  • Add profile image (200×200 jpg, up to 1MB)

 

Android

  • Download the Tout app from the Google Play store
  • Open app
  • Tap “Sign In”
  • Enter work email and password used to sign up
  • Once signed in, you will be taken to your Tout profile

Changes to your profile are not available in the current Android app. Please see “How do I edit my Profile information?” and refer to the desktop instructions in the interim.

 

Is my device compatible?

iOS
The current Tout app is most compatible with versions no earlier than iPhone 4, and on iOS7 or higher (iPhone version 3.18.3 will remain compatible for phones running on iOS6).

 

Android
The current Tout app is compatible with most devices running Android 4.0 and above. The Tout app is NOT compatible with:

  • Any Android devices running below 4.0
  • Blackberry
  • Windows Phone

Note: certain App features may be available on Tout’s iOS version that are not yet available on the Android version.

How do I edit my profile information?

Desktop

  • Sign in to Tout.com using email and password
  • Roll over your profile image (top right)
  • Select “Settings” from the drop down menu
  • Update desired settings (e.g., profile image, username, password, social sharing, notifications, etc.)

Note: The way to edit your profile on Tout.com is a little wonky. To make any changes on the “Accounts” tab you have to have your password input twice in the other tab. E.g., to edit your username: go to “Password” tab > add password twice (don’t save) >> return to the “Accounts” tab > enter in new username > click “Save”.

 

iOS

  • Sign in to Tout app with email and password
  • Tap profile tab (bottom right)
  • Tap gear icon (top left)
  • Select Profile to change name, username, email and/or headline

Android
Changes to your profile (e.g., profile image, username, email, etc.) cannot be completed in the current Android app. Please follow the desktop instructions.

Changes to your password can only be done through the desktop. See “How do I change my password” for further instructions.

How do I connect my account to Twitter &/or Facebook?

Desktop

  • Sign in to Tout.com with email and password
  • Tap “Settings” from the top right drop-down
  • Go to the privacy tab
  • Tap the “t” or “f” icon to connect to Twitter or Facebook

Connect to Facebook:

    • Sign in to desired Facebook account from pop-up window and click “Log In”
    • If you are already signed in to Facebook: clicking the “f” icon will automatically connect that account to Tout. (Sign out of Facebook before clicking connect if you have multiple accounts, e.g., personal and work account)

Connect to Twitter:

    • Sign in to desired Twitter account from pop-up window and click “Authorize App”
    • If you are already signed in to Twitter: confirm you are signed in to the correct Twitter account (top-right of pop-up) and click “Authorize App.” If connected to different account, sign out and sign in to correct account

iOS

  • Sign in to Tout app with email and password
  • Tap profile tab (bottom right)
  • Tap gear icon (top left)
  • Select “Sharing”
  • Tap “Connect” next to the desired social media outlet
  • Tap “Ok” to allow access access to your basic profile info and list of friends
  • Tap “Save” when finished

Android
This feature is not available in the current Android app. Please follow the desktop instructions in the interim.

How do I create a video in the Tout app?

iOS

  • Sign in to Tout app with email address and password
  • Configure “Queue” and “Save to Camera Roll” settings (skip this step if already completed in initial sign-up)
  • Tap record tab (bottom middle of Tout app)
  • Tap camera icon (middle right) to record directly within app &/or upload moments from your Camera Roll (top left stacked icon)
  • Once satisfied with content, click checkmark icon (bottom right).
  • You will be taken to your composition screen where with the options to do the following:
    • record or grab additional video
    • delete, trim, and/or rearrange clips
    • record voiceover
    • add text overlay.
  • Once satisfied, click “Next” (top right)
  • Complete video description with relevant hashtags and @mentions
  • Select Twitter and/or Facebook icons to share to social media at the time of publication
  • Tap play icon (top left) to review or Submit” (top right) to publish

 

Android

  • Sign in to Tout app with email address and password
  • Configure “Queue” and “Save to Camera Roll” settings (skip this step if already completed in initial sign-up)
  • Tap camera icon (top middle)
  • Select whether you want to create video from Camera or grab from your Gallery and select “Always” or “Just Once”

If creating video from Camera:

    • Tap record button (red circle on left side), which will open your device’s native camera
    • Record multiple clips or an entire segment, then click “Save” or checkmark icon
    • You’ll then be taken back to the Tout app’s composition screen where you can tap the camera icon (bottom middle) to record more content, stacked icon (bottom left) to grab from Gallery, or “Next” (top right) if satisfied

If grabbing from Gallery

    • Select icon next to desired gallery app (if no other Gallery apps are installed, you will automatically be taken to your device’s default gallery) and select “Always” or “Just Once”
    • Locate clip within gallery app, trim (if desired) and click “Trim” (top right) when finished (even if no trimming was done)
    • You’ll then be taken back to the Tout app’s composition screen you can tap the camera icon (bottom middle) to record content, stacked icon (bottom left) to grab more video from Gallery, or “Next” (top right) if satisfied
  • Complete video description with relevant hashtags and @mentions
  • Tap play icon (top left) to review or “Submit” (top right) to publish

Note: The ability to share Touts to social media at the time of publication is not available in the current Android app.

iOS

  • Sign in to Tout app with email and password
  • Go to the profile tab (bottom right)
  • Select the gear icon (top left)
  • Go to “Save to Camera Roll”
  • Toggle “Each Clip” and/or “Entire Composition”

Android

  • Sign in to Tout app with email and password
  • Go to the app’s menu (depending on the type of device, there will be three dots in the top right corner or a menu button on your device)
  • Go to “Settings”
  • Under “Save to Gallery”, check boxes to save “Individual Clip” and/or “Entire Video”

What do I do if my video(s) are not uploading?

If videos(s) fail to upload in the Tout app, check these two things first:

  1. Uploading: Make sure that “Uploading” toggle is turned on to allow for auto-uploading
  2. Network Connectivity: Switch to a higher-performing network (such as LTE or WIFI), and keep the Tout app running in the foreground.

Try these tips if your queue is set to on and you’re on a high-performing network, but videos still fail to upload:

  • Restart your device
  • Switch “Uploading” toggle off and on while staying on “Uploading” screen until the video uploads
  • Toggle “Airplane Mode” off and on to reset cellular signal
  • Force-quit other unused apps running in the background
  • Force-quit the Tout app and re-open app​​​
  • If “Save to Camera Roll” is turned on:
    • Option A: Delete video from “Uploading” and re-upload the video from your video library
    • Option B: Email video to yourself or an Admin > sign in to Tout account on Tout.com and upload via desktop

How do I share videos to social media?

Share video at time of publication

iOS

    • Record new video or upload from gallery
    • Complete video title
    • Select Facebook and/or Twitter icons (on same screen as video title)
    • Tap “Submit”

Android
This feature is not available in the current Android app.

 

Share already publishing video

Desktop

    • Locate video on Tout.com
    • Play video
    • Tap share arrow (bottom right)
    • Select desired social media outlet

iOS

    • Sign in to Tout app with email and password
    • Locate video from your profile
    • Play video
    • Tap share arrow (bottom right of Tout)
    • Select desired social media outlet

Android

    • Sign in to Tout app with email and password
    • Locate video from your profile
    • Tap share icon (bottom left of video)
    • Select desired social media outlet

Additional notes regarding sharing to Facebook/Twitter from the iOS or Android App

  • If social icons are selected, the video will be posted to the Facebook/Twitter account tied to that account.
  • Sharing videos at the time of publication will not work for Member’s requiring moderation from their Admin/Editors.

How do I report a problem?


iOS

  • Sign in to Tout app with email and password
  • Tap profile tab (bottom right)
  • Tap gear icon (top right)
  • Select “Report a Problem”
  • An email will be created using your default Mail app; fill in answers to the questions and click “Send”

Android

  • Sign in to Tout app with email and password
  • Go to the app’s menu (depending on the type of device, there will be three dots in the top-right corner or a menu button on the phone’s native device)
  • Select “Report a Problem”
  • Select email provider
  • Fill in answers to the questions and click “Send”

How do I delete my account?

  • Sign in to Tout.com on Desktop under the account you’d like to delete
  • Select “Settings” from the top-right drop down menu
  • Go to account tab
  • Click “Delete my Account”*

*You will be asked to enter in their password as confirmation. If you created the account through Facebook/Twitter, than they may not know there password. In this case, click “Cancel” >> then go to the password tab >> create a new Password >> return to account tab to delete.
